The BKQ Foundation, on Sunday 31st December 2023 commissioned a mechanized borehole in Wlitey Sakpakukope, a suburb of Akatsi in the Volta Region.
The BKQ Foundation responded to a plea for clean water by the people of Avenor Traditional Area, who had long suffered from the absence of potable drinking water. The Foundation, as part of its social and community development initiatives financed the renovation of an existing but dormant manual borehole into a mechanized borehole.
Togbe Sakpaku IX, the Miafiaga of Avenor Traditional Area, chaired the occasion. In his acceptance speech, Togbi expressed his gratitude to the Chairperson of the BKQ Foundation, Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie for his benevolence and timely response to their plea of renovating the dormant manual borehole. He reiterated that the joy of his people to the foundation knows no bounds. Togbe further appealed that the assistance offered by the foundation should extend beyond Sakpakukope since many areas within the Avenor Traditional Area share a similar plight of lack of access to potable water.
On behalf of the BKQ Foundation, Mr. Cudjoe Quashie gave an address, which underscores the foundation’s commitment to community empowerment. Moreover, he assured the people of Wlitey Sakpakukope that the BKQ foundation will continue to extend support to the community. He concluded by asking those in charge of the mechanized borehole to take good care of it for the benefit of all.
Amidst drumming and dancing by the cultural troupe of Wlitey Sakpakuko, the ribbon was ceremoniously cut, symbolizing the fulfillment of a promise by the BKQ Foundation to finance the renovation of the dormant manual borehole into a mechanized borehole.
